The Australian Horticultural Judges Association is a not-for-profit organisation formed to promote a high standard of Horticultural Judging within Australia.

The Association has 140 accredited judges spread across Victoria, NSW, South East Queensland.

Training of new judges is ongoing and Judges are reaccredited at three yearly intervals.

The association is made up of a central body, and six branches. These branches are in Melbourne, Leongatha, Echuca, Geelong, Albury and Brisbane.

Our Judges adhere to standards of judging as laid down in the Australian Horticultural Show Judges Manual, and local rules as stated in show schedules.

If you utilise a Judge, there is no judging fee, however we do ask for reimbursement of travelling expenses and accommodation if required.

Our objectives are to:

  • improve the standard of judges and judging of horticultural exhibitions, trials and competitions in Australia;
  • provide facilities for members to discuss problems encountered at shows, exhibitions, trials and competitions;
  • provide and allocate judges for shows, exhibitions, competitions and trials conducted by societies and garden clubs;
  • establish and maintain a register of all horticultural judges;
  • set, maintain and exercise standards and procedures of judging horticultural exhibitions, trails and competitions; and
  • train horticultural judges in judging horticultural exhibitions, trials; and competitions.

Our goals are to:

  • offer a professional service to our clients, at all times. Focussing on our performance as judges;
  • uphold our reputation as judges and that of the Australian Horticultural Judge’s Association;
  • promote and be advocates for the Australian Horticultural Judges Association;
  • comply with the objectives in the Australian Horticultural Judges Association;
  • respect the leadership roles in the Australian Horticultural Judges Association;
  • retain and maintain the knowledge required for upholding judging standards;
  • be accountable, impartial, apolitical and free from discrimination; and
  • have co-operative and quality relationships with each other as members, between Branches and with our clients.

The Australian Horticultural Judges Association is currently building a comprehensive website.  Online, you will be able to apply for membership of the organisation, apply to utilise one of our Judges at your event, and also purchase a copy of our manual.
